5 reasons why it's critical to invite technology into your world!

Technology can be intimidating at times.  When most of us think of technology we think of the latest phone or smart watch because those are a couple of the heavily marketed items.  It's hard to keep up because it's here today and there tomorrow. While the fancy phones and latest smart watches are the most common advertised there are other great items that are more than just looks.  As I step out of my little safe and comfortable box I am learning more and more about technology that can not only help me in my everyday life but also enhance the lives of my children and loved ones.  Here are 5 reasons to invite technology into your life...

It can literally save a life
It's one thing to have a device that will count your steps for the day and monitor your productivity but you can do so much more now when it comes to technology.  There is a device that will check the blood sugar and monitor it for you.  It will alert you if your sugar is going up and when it is getting too low.  You can send it to your physician or share the information with loved ones.  This device is great for parents of diabetic children because it allows them a little more freedom. Instead of having to say no to slumber parties due to routine sugar checks, you can literally look at your phone and make sure things are looking good.  If they aren't you can go over and pick your little one up. This device gives both you and the parents of the friend peace of mind.

There is another device that will monitor your heart.  If you or a loved one has a heart issue you can simply do heart checks from your home and again it can be accessing using your mobile app.The info can be sent to your doctor.  Sometimes our parents and grandparents don't mention their health because they don't want us to worry.  Well if they simply add you to the profile as someone to received information it will take the responsibility of them having to have a difficult conversation about their heart while allowing you to be informed as well.

It can help prevent injuries or harm
There is a device waiting to come to the U.S. called the temperature sitter (play on words like babysitter).  Basically it is a flat, waterproof device that will check and monitor temperature. You can use it to check your child's temperature by laying it underneath their arm.  Just like a regular thermometer, when it reaches the current body temperature it will let you know. It's called the "sitter" because if you need to check the temperature throughout the night instead of getting up and down all night to do so, there is a double-sided adhesive you put on the device and just stick it under the child's arm. It's so flat that discomfort wouldn't be an issue.  For infants they suggest just sliding it in their diaper (don't forget it's waterproof). You can simply grab your phone at any time during the night to take a peek at their temperature. Another great thing about it is you can preset alerts. So you can set a high and low. For example if you want it to alert you when the temperature reaches 100 it will.  It can also be used to check bath water and milk temperature. Which is especially good for babysitters to use.

It can get your children ahead of the class
There are so many different ways you can use technology to enhance your child's education.  From Square Panda to help your children learn to read to Lego Education  which has a program for students as young as preschool and up through middle school learn how to make science come to life.  They aren't just building cool things with the Legos, they are actually learning to program what they built to actually move!  Being that technology pretty much rules the world, learning programming and coding is sure to be a job in high demand.  We as parents want the best for our children so why not introduce technology at a young age.  It is already second nature for a toddler to grab a tablet and know how to swipe past the home screen.  Encourage this inquisitive behavior and bring it into their education.

It can save you time and money
Time is something we all feel like we don't have enough of.  Especially when it comes to errands around the house.  Well the world of technology acknowledges that and is doing something about it.  There is now something called the "smart home".  Basically it is your regular items used around the home with technology built in.  For example, there is now a refrigerator that will give you your morning "brief".  So while you are preparing breakfast the built-in screen on your fridge door will tell you the weather, traffic pattern, any accidents and top news.  You also have the option to sinc  your calendars so that you can see what everyone has planned for the day (soccer practice, happy hour with friends, picking up someone from the airport).  Cool right!

Another great thing about smart home items is the appliances are now wifi ready and will send you a push message when it is time to replace an air or water filter or.  I mean before, the only way you know you need to replace something is after it is already broken.  LG has a washing machine that will actually diagnose your issue and send it directly to a rep to research.  This does away with having to leave work just so you can meet someone to come take a look at it.  Which saves the money you would be charged for the "assessment".  This same washing machine has a "turbo wash" button that will cut your washing time back almost by half the time!  Talk about turbo.  For a family of  this is BIG! I literally have laundry day. With this feature I can get laundry done in half the time.

It's the NOW
Just a few (well more than a few) years ago we were watching that cartoon the Jetsons where everything in their world was futuristic to us.  I remember seeing an episode where a kids was in school watching a rerun of the Flintstones on his watch. Today that would be something similar to the Apple watch.  They had flying cars.  We don't have those yet but driverless cars are about to hit the market!  My point is the world around us is changing and we need to hop on board for the ride.  Don't get left behind.  This train is moving with or without you and trust me, being left behind is NOT the right move.
